Biographical / Historical

Biology and natural science classes were originally held in Austin Hall. However, as enrollment grew, a new space was needed, and the Science Building was built. Completed in 1916, the three-story building became the sixth permanent building on campus. Along with housing science classes, the building also came to contain the president's office, which had been previously located in the Peabody Memorial Library.

The interior of the Science Building was renovated from 1997-1998.

In 2001, the Science Building was renamed the Bobby K. Marks Administration Building in honor of Bobby Kees Marks, two-time interim president and eleventh University President (1995-2001). The Bobby K. Marks Administration Building now houses the offices of the university president, vice president, and registrar. Currently, it is the third oldest building on campus.
