Biographical / Historical

The first permanent Music Building on campus was built adjacent to the Estill Library (now the Estill Building) in 1952. Due to needing more space, the Music Building was renamed Music 1, and the former Student Union Building (now the Margaret Lea Houston Building or the Houston Building) was became Music 2 in 1964. In the postcard, Music 1 is the brown building with open windows.

In 1959, the Evans English Building was built next to Music 1 to house art and English programs. In 1988, a bridged middle section was constructed between the Evans English Building and the Music 1 Building to create the Evans Complex. This new complex houses the departments of English and Foreign Languages.
