This collection is composed of five folders of printed materials including newspaper articles, books excerpts, and speech manuscripts, as well as three books, relating to the life, death, and legacy of Anna J. Hardwicke Pennybacker.

Biographical / Historical

The National Council of Women of the United States was founded in 1888 and is the oldest nonsectarian organization of women in the United States. The organization's first officers were Frances E. Willard, president, and Susan B. Anthony, vice president. The organization aims to drive social and political change for all.

NCW/US is an accredited non-governmental organization (NGO) with the United Nations Department of Information and has achieved Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council, the highest accreditation an NGO can attain at the United Nations.

Physical Description

There are two portrait photographs of Anna J. Hardwicke Pennybacker. The original portrait was a drawing in crayon by Violet Oakley in 1927.

The back of the first photograph has "Mrs. Percy V. Pennybacker, Chairman of the International Relations Committee of the National Council of Women of the United States" typed with a typewriter.

The back of the second photograph has "Mrs. Percy V. Pennybacker Please return to Sam Houston College, Huntsville, Texas" in cursive and pencil. A stamp from Baker's Studio in Huntsville, Texas, is also on the back.
