Scope and Contents
The Huntsville Chamber of Commerce Materials (1935 – 1960s; 2 boxes) contain annual reports that list members and executive personnel. These reports also provide updates on various statistics relating to Huntsville, such as the population and the number of utility connections for that given year. The newsletters in the collection highlight monthly programs and the work of various divisions in the Chamber of Commerce. The correspondence is mainly between the President of the Chamber of Commerce and its members. This collection also contains minutes from the meetings of different committees of the Chamber of Commerce and brochures with information for events within Huntsville. The Huntsville-Walker County Chamber of Commerce became a private non-profit organization chartered by the state of Texas in 1934. This organization seeks to promote economic and social programs. Their goal is to offer opportunities for the development of local leadership and to serve its members as well as the wider Walker County community.
