Kevin D. Treadway collection of letters to Edward E. Lindgren
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of photocopies of six letters written by Colonel John W. Thomason Jr. to Corporal Edward E. Lindgren between the years of 1919 and 1929 while Thomason was stationed at various locations, including Germany, Cuba, and Nicaragua. The letters discuss personal updates and provide insights into events relating to his Marine postings. The collection also includes a document created by Kevin D. Treadway, the collector, providing background information about Edward E. Lindgren, his wife Olive Meister, and how Treadway acquired the letters. Biographical / Historical
Edward Everett Lindgren was born in Adrian, Minnesota on February 18, 1891. He was a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps, serving in France during World War I and with the Army of Occupation in Germany until 1919. He returned to the U.S. in the fall of 1919. Lindgren died on May 12, 1946 and is buried in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
John W. Thomason Jr., author, artist, and United States Marine Corps officer was born in Huntsville, Texas on February 28, 1893. He entered the United States Marine Corps in 1917, serving in France during World War I. His stations after the war included Cuba, Nicaragua, China, and the USS Rochester; he was an aide to Assistant Secretary of the Navy Colonel Henry Roosevelt, worked at the Latin American desk of the Office of Naval Intelligence, and was briefly involved in the Solomons campaign in World War II. Thomason was involved in World War II duties when he died in San Diego, California, on March 12, 1944.
