Biographical / Historical

Dr. Karin Olson, daughter of Sam Houston State University's Dr. Olson, created posters for the BLM (Black Lives Matter) movement of 2020.

The BLM movement, advocating against violence inflicted on those from Black communities by those with power, initially began as a response to the death of Trayvon Martin by police in 2013. After the choking death of George Floyd in 2020, the movement gained worldwide traction and sparked protests around the country.

Several peaceful BLM protests occurred on and around the Sam Houston State University campus involving students and the community at large holding signs and chanting messages for the end of unjust violence against Black communities.
