Biographical / Historical
The "German Triangle" refers to a geographical region in the Midwestern United States, primarily encompassing St. Louis, Missouri, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where a large number of German immigrants settled during the mid-19th century; however, Louisiana is connected to this concept because a significant German population settled in the area known as the "German Coast," located upriver from New Orleans on the Mississippi River, which was a major migration route for German immigrants coming to the United States via the port of New Orleans.
