Biographical / Historical

Walker County, Texas underwent a change to it's namesake after the original honoree, Mississippi Senator Robert John Walker, angered the people of Walker County by aligning with President Abraham Lincoln during the American Civil War. Therefore, Walker County chose a new man, Captain Samuel Walker, to bestow the honor of namesake for the County. Samuel Walker served as a Captain during the Mexican American War and fell while fighting in Mexico. He worked with renowned Gunsmith, Samuel Colt, on a new gun for Texas Rangers. Out of his and Colt's designs came the Walker Revolver.
