Biographical / Historical
The Republic of Texas was created on March 2, 1836, after the Texas Revolution against Mexico. On December 29, 1846, Texas joined the United States as the 28th State. The Texas dollar circulated as currency during the Republic of Texas. Various forms of currency, known as star money, redbacks, change notes, and exchequer bills, were issued. However, coins were never minted. The denominations ranged from $1, $2, $3, $5, $10, $20, $50, $100, and $500.
