From the Collection:

This collection is composed of two boxes containing materials from the Philomathean Literary Society (Philos) and the Eclectic Society Club, Sam Houston State Teachers College event and football programs, and a SHSTC freshman "T" beanie.

The materials in this collection were orginally part of a scrapbook. The materials are now separated from their original source.

Biographical / Historical

Eclectics Club was a literary society formed in the 1980s. Membership was coed at first, but by 1916 it became a women's only club. In 1959, members of the club became the charter members of the Delta Kappa chapter of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. After the sorority left in 2019, their house became part of SHSU Residence Life and was renamed Tripod after the university's beloved unofficial mascot, a three-legged dog.
