Scope and Contents
This collection is composed of two boxes containing materials from the Philomathean Literary Society (Philos) and the Eclectic Society Club, Sam Houston State Teachers College event and football programs, and a SHSTC freshman "T" beanie.
The materials in this collection were orginally part of a scrapbook. The materials are now separated from their original source.

Biographical / Historical
The "Houstonians" were made up of both music and non-music majors. All musicians were on a music scholarship plan, aid that paid for part of their college expenses.
The "Houstonians" provided music for college dances, other college events, and non-affiliated campus events.
This concert, "Swingtime Varieties," helped to defray the expenses for a speaker for the formal dedication of the new music building, which opened in the early 1950s.

The "Houstonians" Second Annual "Swingtime Varieties" concert was held in the College Auditorium (Old Main) on Friday, January 11th, at 8:00 pm.
The director of "The Houstonians," Charles Lee Hill, had a few arrangements and a composed work in the program.
