This correspondence is addressed to Robert Van Waes, American Association of University Professors, Washington D.C. from Rupert C. Koeninger, Direcotr of the Department of Sociology.

Rupert C. Koeninger writes Robert Van Waes mentioning since the Febraury 5th meeting with the Board of Regents at Stephen F. Austin there has been added information about his case.

Koeninger writes in an executive meeting with the Board, Regent Gresham took the lead in discussing relieving Dr. Lowman from his obligation to not recommend Koeninger for the next academic year. Majority of the Board was in favor of reconsideration and Regent Gresham asked Dr. Lowman if he was relieved of his obligation would he hire Koeninger for next year. Koeninger writes that Dr. Lowman said he was under an obligation to not answer. Koeninger writes he met with Regent Gresham on Tuesday, March 6th where Regent Gresham informed him there were 2 or 3 members who were ready to oppose Koeninger's continuing employment at Sam Houston.

Koeninger states that Smith Ramsey, the president of the Board has been the main oppositionist against his continuing employment. Koeninger mentions Dr. Lowman made an agreement with Ramsey where he will not recommend Koeninger for the next academic year, and in turn Ramsey will agree to the purchase of real estate Dr. Lowman wants for the college. Koeninger writes Dr. Lowman is in a political battle over an urban renewal reelection issue affecting the college. He mentions the Board is split on this decision as well. Koeninger mentions Dr. lowman is dealing with cancer and he will be out of the city during the city election on April 3th. Koeninger mentions to Van Waes this has little to do with his health but is a delaying tatic, and he is providing this information so Van Waes may act with the most available information.

Koeninger mentions he is concerned about time running out before his May meeting with the Board and believes the tide can be turned in his favor if majority of the Board members can be successfully motivated.
