Edward Rider writes to the Editor's of the Harper's Magazine. This letter, "Captive Academics?" was published in the magazine on page 14.

Rider discusses the lack of academic freedom being defended. Rider writes the Sam Houston State Teachers College faculty who showed support for Koeninger and signed a peition against his termination are not a threat. Rider writes the national orginzations invovled in Koeninger's case who are seeking to protect academic freedom are too weak and are a libability.
