Mitchell was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1900 and passed away after a car accident in 1949. Mitchell is now known as a highly controversial figure due to her personal opinions centering around politics and race.

The Outlaws and Peace Officers Collection contains booklets, weeklies, and newspaper articles pertaining to both men and women on either side of the law. Highlights of the collection include pamphlets and newspaper clippings about Jesse James, Wyatt Earp, Calamity Jane, and “Doc” Holliday.
