Physical Description
The black and white photograph is of men and women standing and sitting in front of a brick building with one of its doors open. The photograph was matted and then cut. The location of this photograph is unknown, but the building is not associated with Huntsville, Texas, or Sam Houston Normal Institute. It is possible that the location of the institute is in Brownwood, Texas, due to the typed label on the back of the photograph (see description below).
On the back is a typed label with the description "J.K. (Jesse Kinard) Burke SHNI Class of 1896-1897 boy from the right." and an unclear handwritten note "Dad (J.K. Burke) [?] a [?] teachers in B. wood- [?] was principal" in cursive and black ink.
Based on the label on the back of the "Student Body and Faculty of Summer Institute" photograph, Burke did teach in B. Wood (possibly Brownwood, Texas) at a school institute, along with being a teacher and principal of a grade school there.
