Scope and Contents
This collection is composed of five black and white photographs belonging to Jesse Kinard Burke. Two photographs are of SHNI's graduating class, two are of students and faculty when Burke taught at an institute for teachers, and one is of the students and faculty when Burke was the superintendent of a grade school.

Biographical / Historical
Jesse Kinard Burke taught at an institute for teachers and a grade school, where he later became the principal. The location of the institute and grade school are believed to be in Brownwood, Texas, due to the typed label on the back of the photograph.

Physical Description
The black and white photograph is of students and faculty in front of a sandstone building during a summer session at an institute. The photograph was matted and then cut. The location of this photograph is unknown, but the building is not associated with Huntsville, Texas, or Sam Houston Normal Institute. The location of the institute may be in Brownwood, Texas, due to the typed label on the back of the photograph (see description below).
On the back is a typed label description, "J.K. (Jess Kinard) Burke, seated at far right. Taught a summer institute for teachers in B. Wood (Brownwood?). He also taught school there and was principal of the grade school."
