Physical Description

This correspondence is addressed to President Harmon Lowman, Sam Houston State Teachers College from Elton Abernathy, Chairman of Professional Standards Committee, Texas Association of College Teachers.

Elton Abernathy writes President Harmon Lowman about Rupert C. Koeninger's case and his dealings with the Texas Association of College Teachers.

Abernathy mentions that Koeninger first came to him in late August of 1961 about his dismissal from Sam Houston State Teachers College by the Board of Regents. He mentions his committee was made aware of the situation, but Koeninger asked the association not to do anything. Abernathy mentions in November 1961 Koeninger met with the entire committee for updates but wished for the committee not to do anything. Abernathy mentions he heard from Koeninger 2 weeks ago asking help from the association since the Board of Regents refused to rescind the motion of termination.

Abernathy lists the committee's procedures they will need to take to address the situation, stating the first 2 procedures have already been handled. He mentions that 2 members of the citizens panel (possibly Dr. Corwin Johnson and Dr. Edmund Heinsolm) will go to Huntsville within 2 weeks to talk to Koeninger, President Lowman, and others who can shed light on the causes of Koeninger's termination.
