Whatley Bible Collection
Scope and Contents
This collection contains over forty Holy Bibles and other Christian texts as donated by Mr. Charles Whatley. These materials are largely in English, with a few printed in the original tongues of the Protestant and Jewish faiths. The collection also contains 41 individual wooden boxes, complete with topical embellishments. These boxes were handcrafted by Mr. Whatley for the express purpose of storing their respective texts.

Biographical / Historical
Mr. Charles Whatley was born on January 31, 1930 in Conroe, Texas. He was a United States Air Force veteran and educator within the Texas public school system. Mr. Whatley met his wife, Mary Whatley, while stationed in England. This collection began to grow as Mr. Whatley made return trips to England to visit his wife's family. Along with collecting bibles during his travels, Mr. Whatley also enjoyed the outdoors and was an amateur archeologist. Charles Whatley passed away on July 31, 2021.
