The Historic Documents and Prints Collection consists of various prints depicting American and Napoleonic wars and reproduction documents related to the Battle of San Jacinto.

The Huntsville Texas Newspaper Collection consists of various newspapers printed in Huntsville, Texas from the early 1800s to early 2000s. Some titles included are: The Huntsville Item, The Huntsville Post, The Huntsville Post-Item, Huntsville Pictorial, and The Huntsville Herald. Also included in this collection are two large, color-copied issues of Old Ironside's Monthly.

Scope and Contents The J. Mark Smither War Letters (1861 - 1881; 1 book) includes family correspondence, newspaper clippings and a poem relating his experience fighting in the Civil War. The letters in this collection are mainly between J. Mark Smither and his mother, brother, uncle and sister. The letters include details about J. Mark Smither’s health, the weather conditions and the encounters of the members of the Hood’s Brigade; including information on any soldiers that were wounded and those who died....

The items in this collection represent Jane Howe Gregory’s extensive research into the Texas Penitentiary system, primarily focusing on issues surrounding female inmates. Journal articles, class notes, and prison records are the most common types of materials in this collection. Prison statistics and prison reforms pertaining to female prisoners are the most common themes.

This collection contains correspondence from a prisoner at Ship Island, Mississippi to Jefferson Davis. It also contains an article by Lee Meriwether regarding his childhood encounter with Davis.

Scope and Contents The Johnson Family Papers (1840 - 1965; 1.5 boxes) includes personal and business correspondence, bills and receipts, photographs and a property deed related to the Johnson Family in Huntsville. The main correspondence in the collection between J.R. Johnson and his wife and was written towards the end of the Civil War. Scope and Contents

The Kittrell Journal Collection includes copies of the Kittrell Journal. Within these journals, Pleasant Williams Kittrell documented his interactions with patients of his medical practice. The account books contain records of his bills and the fees charged for medical services. Indexed versions of these copies can be found in Volumes 1 and 2 of the Kittrell Journal CT275.K58A3 1980.

The materials in this collection are composed of two boxes.

Box 1 is composed of Charles Lee Hill's scrapbook and photographs of the musical group "The Houstonians."

Box 2 is composed of biographical materials and photographs about Charles Lee Hill's life and music career. As well as biographical materials about his grandfather W.T. Hill's life and time spent in the American Civil War as a Confederate officer.
