Big Bend Collection

Scope and Contents

The Big Bend Materials contains various materials on Big Bend National Park. These include postcards depicting the Chisos Mountains and the Green Gulch. There are also pamphlets in this collection; one of which has a centerfold map of the Big Bend National Park. The collection contains miniature album prints showing a pictorial guide through the park. There are also newspaper clippings and maps and other materials providing additional information on the Big Bend National Park.

Big Thicket Collection

Scope and Contents The Big Thicket lies within Hardin, Liberty, Tyler, San Jacinto, and Polk Counties in Southeast Texas, between the San Jacinto River, Neches River, and Pine Island Bayou. Burns Family Slavery and Civil War Materials

The Samuel T. Burns Slavery and Civil War documents (1839-1864; 1folder) is made up of a membership application for the Daughters of the Republic of Texas for Mrs. Daisy Cowart, a descendant of Samuel T.Burns. The documents also include correspondence materials on the San Jacinto Museum of History Association. There are also several clippings from local newspapers. Bills of sale account for some slave bought by Samuel T. Burns.
