Van Deavender Civil War Memoir Collection

Scope and Contents

The memoir was written by Van Deavender, the grandfather of Sylvan Cohen of Huntsville, Texas. The original Civil War memoir was given to Sam Houston State University by Sylvan Cohen in 1984. The memoir was transcribed by Charles Dwyer.

The Watergate Clippings Collection (1972 – 2009; 3 boxes) contains newspaper and magazine clippings documenting the events of the Watergate scandal. Most of the clippings are from newspapers and more specifically the Houston Post with some from the Morning Telegraph. There are also several copies ofclippings from the Times and Newsweek magazines. Whatley Bible Collection

This collection contains over forty Holy Bibles and other Christian texts as donated by Mr. Charles Whatley. These materials are largely in English, with a few printed in the original tongues of the Protestant and Jewish faiths. The collection also contains 41 individual wooden boxes, complete with topical embellishments. These boxes were handcrafted by Mr. Whatley for the express purpose of storing their respective texts.
